Thank you to everyone who joined us for one of our Opening Receptions over the past few weeks! What a great way to kick off another CLA year!
It was great to reconnect with so many old friends, and we are grateful for everyone who attended and showed such a warm welcome to our new participants.
Here are a few photos:
(And a special "thank you" to Fr. James Martin, SJ, for stopping by our recent CLA – Baltimore meeting!)
Our tenth CLA cohort in New York City will complete the program this spring!
Since we began there a decade ago, we have expanded to eight more cities, and during that time nearly 500 people have completed CLA.
Our alumni serve as lay leaders around the country in an array of professions. Some practice law, some work in education, some work in ministry, some are businesswomen, a few are doctors, and at least three CLA alums have entered religious life -- two as religious sisters and another as a Jesuit. All strive to live as women and men for others.
We are continually inspired by the many young adults who come to CLA seeking to deepen their faith and discern how to live as Ignatian leaders. This year alone, more than 200 people are participating in CLA in nine cities nationwide. Participants work through the bigger questions in their lives, supported by a faith-filled community of peers committed to leadership and service.
CLA has grown considerably since its first cohort in New York. We have formed new cohorts in new places, and successfully formed hundreds of Ignatian leaders, thanks to our many mentors, volunteers, donors, and supporters.
There has never been a greater need for lay leaders in our Church. The entire CLA community sustains the program, making it such a formative experience for our participants. Together we have built the CLA community. We are all committed to the mission, and we all share in its success.
Thank you for being part of the CLA community! We look forward to celebrating our past decade, and gearing up for the next one, with you in the coming months.

Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA) is excited to bring Discerning Spirits to New York City on April 12, 2018! Discerning Spirits is a unique tasting event where local brewers, winemakers, and distillers share their craft and discuss the discernment process that led them to it. The evening will feature tastings, local food, and more, all to support Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA).
In their most recent issue, "Jesuits" magazine highlighted the new Ignatian Young Adult Ministries initiative of the Office of Ignatian Spirituality.
"Three Ignatian Young Adult Ministries programs will serve young adults on the East Coast in a holistic and distinctly Ignatian style. The programs—Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA), Charis Ministries, and Jesuit Connections—are uniquely designed to accommodate the kinetic lives of young adults and address their distinct needs. The programs work together to inspire young adults to live as women and men for others, and to offer formation in a way that comports with the realities of their lives."

On Thursday, April 6, 2017, current participants, alumni, and friends of Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA) Boston will gather in Brighton to raise funds and support for CLA at the third annual Discerning Spirits event.
Started in 2014, Discerning Spirits is a unique tasting event that invites local brewers, distillers, and winemakers to share tastes of their products, and, more importantly - the stories behind them. Not just any tasting event, Discerning Spirits is an intimate evening where participating vendors - known as Discerning Partners - give attendees a glimpse into the discernment process that led them to their craft. In between sampling the wide variety of products on offer and enjoying camaraderie with the CLA community, attendees will hear firsthand from our Discerning Partners about what it takes to listen to one’s deepest desires, follow where that might lead – and how it can bear fruit to benefit others.
